The 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Sedan receives its most extensive update within the current generation, with more than half of the vehicle's components newly developed or re-engineered. Highlights include the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), fourth-generation MBUX, a standard MBUX Superscreen, next-generation DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps, intelligent AIRMATIC® suspension, and updated electrified powertrains. The U.S. lineup consists of the S 500 4MATIC Sedan and S 580 4MATIC Sedan.

This page covers both models, their powertrains, passenger-comfort features, technology, and current or upcoming availability at Mercedes-Benz of Abilene.

What's New for 2027

The 2027 S-Class introduces the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), which serves as the vehicle's digital architecture and integrates functions spanning infotainment, driver assistance, and vehicle systems. Its connection to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud supports over-the-air software updates for compatible functions and Digital Extras.

Fourth-generation MBUX is standard and introduces an MBUX Virtual Assistant that uses generative AI from multiple technology partners. Mercedes-Benz says the system integrates technology including Microsoft Bing Search, Google Cloud's Automotive AI Agent, and ChatGPT-4o. The assistant can conduct multi-turn conversations and retain short-term context, while the enhanced Zero Layer interface surfaces frequently used apps, suggestions, and vehicle functions.

A standard MBUX Superscreen combines a 14.4-inch central multimedia display and 12.3-inch front-passenger display beneath a single glass surface. A separate 12.3-inch driver display sits ahead of the steering wheel and is available with a 3D display function.

The exterior also receives a substantial redesign. The grille is approximately 20% larger and gains an illuminated surround, while an illuminated standing Mercedes-Benz star is available. New taillamps use three chrome-framed star elements, and the updated DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps feature a new twin-star design.

Next-generation DIGITAL LIGHT is standard and uses micro-LED technology. Mercedes-Benz USA describes 25,000 individually controlled pixels in each headlamp. Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus with Partial High Beam Function is offered in the U.S. for the first time on this S-Class generation. The separate Projection Function for DIGITAL LIGHT remains an available Digital Extra rather than standard projection functionality on every vehicle.

Standard AIRMATIC air suspension now incorporates intelligent damping. With the applicable Car-to-X service active, anonymized road-condition information from Mercedes-Benz vehicles traveling ahead can be transmitted through the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud and used to prepare the damping system for certain upcoming road-surface changes.

Other 2027 changes include a redesigned multifunction steering wheel, dual front wireless smartphone charging, illuminated cupholders, Digital Vent Control, expanded rear-seat comfort equipment, and the MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure program with more than 150 exterior paint choices and more than 400 interior colors.
